Peaux-Balises is a collection of woven pieces designed to reflect the presence of ultraviolet light.

Attached to electricity poles or trees, they adorn public spaces like skins covering rigid, fixed elements. Within the weaves, the combination of fluid and rigid gives a skeletal appearance that intrigues passers-by. These Peaux-Balises use colour transformation to indicate variations in the intensity of ultraviolet radiation. These are playful textile elements that encourage us to think about the materials that make up the spaces we pass through, but also - and above all - the invisible materials with which we are constantly interacting. These objects also facilitate encounters, particularly during the installation. Passers-by come along, ask questions, take an interest, try to install them and then pass them on to others.

When the light level is low, the Peaux-Balises are clear, ecru and transparent. The golden or ochre threads highlight the appearance of the purple that tints the filaments as the UV level increases. Then, they takes on a zenithal purple colour that contrasts with the tree or metal post on which it is hung.

This jacquard weave is part of the Éveil aux ultraviolets diploma project, supported by the DECATHLON / Ecole des Arts Décoratifs Eco-Design and Creation Chair and the Banque des Territoires Groupe Caisse des Dépôts.
