Triangles Leotard, 2021

Triangles Leotard is made up of triangular geometric shapes 3D printed in gold PLA on a beige fishnet textile to create a body-sized sample.

The leotard explores the relationship between the textile worn and the body's movements. Deformation, torsion and stretching are forces that affect the behaviour of the textile.
Based on the fishnet used for dance leotards, I created an assembly of different patterns developed during previous research [Triangulations]. The areas of the body that accentuate the deformation are made up of larger triangles, brought about by a gradient. These gradients are generated using Grasshopper, a tool that allows a wide range of variations and therefore assemblies adapted to different parts of the body.
The body is revealed through the transparency and shifting articulations of the triangles. In this way, the grid that structures the pattern is also highlighted, and we can see the textile lines connecting to each other.
By combining contemporary manufacturing methods with traditional techniques, I have obtained one of the possible applications of this motif printed on textile.
