MAGNETIC TEXTILE
March 2019 - July 2019
Research / Textile design / Behaviour / Materials
This textile made of magnetic strips contains data, is thin, very flexible and reacts to the presence of a magnet.
I wove this textile using a simple weft to form a regular pattern, alternating between the shiny and matt sides of the material to make it stand out.
Magnetic tape is an attractive material because it's smooth and flat (pleasant to weave) and (for the ones I've used) has one matt side and one shiny side. It's also a recycled material that represents a story, with family videos, films, etc. on it.
Once woven, the strips create a textile that is pleasant to the touch, fragile and elegant.
