Bronze Textile, 2021

Experimentation with a bronze textile whose structure allows controlled deformation. Inspired by the "Miura" origami pattern, this textile is made from bronze and steel cables.

Bronze Textile is a piece that experiments with the pattern's softening of rigid material. Using the "Miura" origami pattern, the bronze elements are given a volume that resembles folding. The steel cable weave inserted into the bronze elements binds them together and softens the movement.

After making a tool that takes the shape of a module in the pattern, the robot is used to make impressions in the raw clay. The metal mesh is then inserted and the mould fired. Once the ceramic has been fired, the bronze is melted and cast.
